Is Boost Safe For Children?

Young children safe and smiling.

A nutritionist answers this frequently asked question

Nutritional supplementation is a safer and more natural approach to healing than drugs or invasive treatments. But it is still important to exercise caution when self-treating. So checking that ingredients are safe for long-term use is only sensible. And sticking to a safe level of dosage is obviously advisable, never more so than when we are giving supplements to our children.

Due diligence is particularly important if you are considering nutritional supplementation for your young child. Equally, I would recommend doing your homework (and checking with your child’s doctor if in doubt) before starting any kind of therapy at home, whether nutritional or some other kind.

As I am often asked “is Boost safe for children?”, I have taken expert nutritionist advice on this. Below is the advice given in respect of a 6 year old girl with vitiligo…

“There are no issues with the dose of most ingredients in Boost formula for
a 6 year old, except PABA and tyrosine. Whilst these may not cause any
contraindication or side effects you should be conservative and advise she
takes just 1 tablet daily instead of 4.

However, her mum should keep an eye out for any unusual allergic reactions
she shows, or anything else out of her ‘norm’.

I would also advise that the youngster increases her intake of B vitamin
foods – chicken, eggs, fish, and green veggies, (broccoli, spinach ..YUK !)
or take a kid’s multi vitamin with B vitamins.

Vitiligo is often caused by a lack of stomach acid and /orĀ  by parasites in
the tummy that produce chemical toxins which can bleach the skin, so it is
worth investigating this too.

I do hope this information will prove useful and wish your speedy
improvement for her vitiligo.
